KEELER, California  !

The Ghost Town That Just Won't Die .
Welcome to Keeler, a dusty old window to the past
and a curious little stop along the road to Death Valley,  Mount Whitney, and the vast Southern California desert; all rich in historic and natural treasures.
Keeler is situated in a unique and wondrous geographic location that offers world class adventure and discoveries to all who possess the curious mind and and the will to explore. Whether your quest is centered on history, geology, archeology, flora, fauna, or just plain old fashioned fun, Keeler is a great beginning. From the Keeler sand dunes, one can see several mountain ranges at once, including Magnificent Mount Whitney, the highest peak in the contiguous U.S.
Visit the little Keeler Post Office , buy your
stamps and catch up on the local gossip with our famous Postmaster, NYLIA SWANSON. Yep, the same one you read about on the front Page of The Los Angeles Times on
(June 4th 2007).
The mountain towering  behid the Post Office is "Fat Hill", offically known as CERROGORDO. Cerro Gordo was the very reason for Keeler's existence .
The mineral treasures, mostly silver that was  gouged out of the miles of tunnels within the mountain pretty much financed the building of Los Angeles.  Keeler was the boom town support system for the extensive and various mining operations. Today, Cerro Gordo is an ongoing restoration project and its owner and resident "Mayor" Mike Patterson  offers tours and a unique Western experience there at his Ghost Town Bed and sometimes breakfast. Keeler as well as Fat Hill certainly have their ghosts and wild west tales that will entertain you if you happen to ask the right talkative citizen when you stop in.
